Troopers were called to a stretch of the northbound lanes of the interstate shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Thursday morning to investigate a reported crash near the 155-mile marker.
The initial call to state police was regarding a pedestrian down in the roadway; however, upon arrival, troopers determined the person found in the traffic lane was the driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned a short distance away.
Investigators say that the tractor-trailer went onto the left shoulder of I-95, then swerved back onto th roadway and the driver was thrown from the vehicle.
The truck then continued on, struck a ditch, and overturned.
More information is expected to be released during the ongoing investigation.
